I'm tired of "Christian" pastors doing grave injustice to the Scripture in the name of empire. And I will enjoy taking them to task when I can.

A thoughtful critique and take down of a toxic and insidious malice. A great proclamation of love as an antidote. Thanks brother.

Thank you for going "toe-to-toe" with Howerton. I shudder at the fact he leads a mega- church.

Mega churches are like Walmarts are to grocery stores. They’re bigger, they get more people, but it’s all corporate and boxy and nothing is quite as good or healthy.

I checked out his website...he leads multiple Texas megas, several more planned, and also in Mexico.

Garrett, Thank you for the work you do. I haven’t finished reading it (but look forward to doing so) because I spend time with each point. As always I am nourished by your words.

Also, I always enjoy listening to when you read what you have written. Listening to your inflections as you speak, adds more meaning to your words. I have read “When Scripture is Used to Harm’.” Thank for those words.

It wasn’t just this one piece that I have thoughts about. In this particular piece you talked about inclusion Community is so very important for all of us, yet, people are often judged and not accepted for who they are. A church and its congregation can profess that all are welcome yet, there can be an echelon and many are excluded. What happened in LA was so sad and terrifying. This really spoke to me: “True power is always found in love and service. That’s a politics I can get behind.” What happened in LA “it was not power given away, it was power given away.”

Opps… the last line should have been: it was power weaponized. Not so good at proofreading what I write.
