Every time I write about teaching, I find myself thinking about the teachers that will always mean something to me. I wonder if some of them are still around.
You are already a gifted teacher, and have taught me so much. I think some neurologic connections in our brains get primed by being neurocited. So you will become an even better teacher, because you are primed for it. Blessings from a student.
I love Kensington’s word! Nervecited! It should be added to Webster’s Dictionary as it has a plethora of uses.
You will do well teaching 3rd grade, my favorite to teach. And I know you will get through the credential program with no problem, & bring science alive to all the middle schoolers lucky enough to have you. Love you!
Yay you! Many years ago, as an “Instructional Aid” I worked with third graders. I loved them! They’re so reasonable! Be honest with them and they’ll respect and remember you forever!
I know you can manage it. You’re used to long hours. I was about your age when I went back to get my teaching credential. Because my major was psychology (pretty useless for teaching) I had to either finish the last 12 units of an English major or test out. I couldn’t gamble that I’d pass the 4 hour test so that first quarter I had to work toward both the major and the credential. Matt was about 12 and Ross 9 I think. I took 25 units, subbed on Fridays and somehow managed to hold on to my family stuff. But I was relieved when I passed that test, squeaked by really! Look for ways the stuff you do fof subbing work for class assignments Hopefully professors where this makes sense will work with you. Remember to have some fun along the way!
All these changes and Something solid remains. Having taught Junior & HS for a year, years ago, which wasn't awful but to have the opportunity to teach and reach third graders, to "make learning accessible without shame" that early is a gift to everyone. Blessings on you even as you are blessing to us.
