Garrett, your writing is inspirational and insightful. I have been on a similiar journey where I got caught up in the material world and what I thought I needed to be doing or worse yet I thought I could control my life and the tragectory of it but our mutual friend in Yuba City and my beautiful wife, helped me realize the real truth -- God has a plan for all of us and He wants only the best for each of us sometimes we can't see or comprehend that because we are looking at the situation from a material - Earthly perspective whereas God is all-knowing and all-seeing. That being said perhaps your recent injury/knee surgery was meant to happen so you would have time to reflect and write so you can help all of us along the spiritual journey we are all on. Thank you very much - keep writing!. I know you will be 'up and around' very soon and God has amazing things planned for you, even if they are not 100% clear to you now. Sincerely, Moe Dean

Amen Moe! Someone emailed me after reading the piece that I look more relaxed than they've ever seen me... I guess two weeks of being forced to spend most of my time on this couch is finally relaxing me. Who would have guessed? But, God is good.

Thanks for this. I especially like this bit: “The empires of the world all run on exhaustion. It’s why they all end. Sabbath is dissent, woven into the weak, against the tyranny of empire.”

I feel sorry for the guy who no longer reads your posts, he’s missing out on some of your best work. While I agree, you needed rest, I wish it didn’t happen this way. Sending love and prayers your way for a quicker recovery than expected. Keep writing!

I keep writing because I love trying to figure out my thoughts. It’s a bonus when anyone else reads these things.

Me too! SO here goes a story you don't have to read... but it will be gravy for both of us if you do. I think you would have felt at home in America's 1971.

In 1969, Taiwan, I discovered philosophy. After 2 years of struggle with Truth and cowardice, I risked 7 years in prison, going AWOL from the Navy. 6 months later I turned myself in, wrote a letter to the Admiral, "I can no longer be part of an organization that guarantees my freedom by killing other people." The Navy gave me an Undesirable Discharge.

Since Philosophy had got me out of the Navy, in 1972, I went to study it at University. In 1976, 2 classes shy of a degree, I quit to show, I did not need a degree to be taken seriously. I joined the start of the Anti-1st-Strike-Nuclear-War movement. The USA had begun preparing to strike Soviet Missiles WHILE STILL IN THEIR SILOS. And develop a Defensive Shield "Star Wars" to shoot down any missiles they managed to launch.

How many living Americans know, in 1982, Americans were preparing to fight and win a Nuclear War?

For 7 years we performed Non-violent Civil Disobedient Symbolic Action as taught by Jonah House Baltimore... Philip Berrigan/Liz McCallister at the center, of "Disarm or Dig Graves".

While going to jail with other Christians, I made Pascal's wager for Yeshua.

God using us, eventually sparked a worldwide movement, which inspired Reagan to give up Star Wars and First Strike weapons and meet with Gorbachev. They decided to start Strategic Arms limitation talks. The world did not suffer a Nuclear War due to God in Us and in Colonel Stanislav Petrov; on the Soviet side. Watch documentary, The Man who Saved The World.

God took followers of Christ in the USA and in the USSR as the Soviet Union collapsed, and averted Nuclear holocaust. Why doesn't American Christianity celebrate it? Do Christians not even know about it.... for a reason.

Most Christians celebrate their idols of theology. Most denominations celebrate their rightness over the right thing (Christ-likeness).

I have that philosophy degree, and you don’t need it. I keep “Doctor” on my page because my mother believes people will believe I know what I’m talking about.

But you’re right. We who know know.
